چکیده:

The present research intended to investigate EFL learners’ attitudes and perceptions of MOOCs, online learning, and face to face Language courses to uncover if there were any significant differences between Iranian EFL learners’ perceptions of language MOOCs and face to face Language courses. The participants were 30 EFL learners who were selected from among conversation classes at a language institute in Isfahan, Iran. Surveys and in depth interviews via Skype were employed to gather the needed data. The findings revealed that from the participants’ point of view, MOOCs facilitate learning for people with special needs, provides an opportunity for continued lifelong learning. In addition, it increases their motivation, increases Access to Information of Interest. Moreover, it was also found that MOOCs were suitable for the participants’ learning style, the design of MOOCs facilitates learning for several types of participants. Form the participants’ perspective, MOOCs lead to more freedom because language learners can learn anytime, and from anywhere, it leads to learning at their own pace. In addition, a significant difference was found between the participants’ attitudes of the MOOCs and face to face groups. In general, the results of the interview and survey revealed that learning via MOOCs was desirable as the participants believed that MOOCs are more flexible than conventional courses. Furthermore, the results of a Chi-square test revealed a significant difference between Iranian EFL Learners’ Perceptions of Language MOOCs and Face to Face Language Courses. These results support the implementation of bMOOCs flipped instruction in foreign language classrooms for better and faster learner improvements in mastering oral communication strategies.
