چکیده:
The purpose of this study was to explore and investigating institute officials’, EFL teachers’, and EFL teacher trainees’ perceptions of the strengths and weaknesses of the Teacher Training Courses (TTCs) held in language institutes in Isfahan. A total number of 10 officials, 10 trainers, and 50 trainees were accessed, and the required data were collected of the participants through questionnaires and interviews. A researcher made questionnaire, the whole process was done in three sessions and during approximately 200 minutes. The findings indicated that the institute officials concurred that their institute had a range of services to support learners and overall positive attitude towards the training environment and administration. According to the perspectives of the course instructors, the course material was updated and the methods used by the TTC trainer make the content clear and easy to understand. And finally according to trainees’ perspectives for course content and structure, delivery methods, and instructors/facilitators, the trainees had significantly positive attitudes, but for training activities and training environment/administration, their positive attitudes did not reach statistical significance. All these results show that the major strength was found to be using experienced language teachers and teacher trainers most of whom held internationally recognized teaching certificates such as CELTA or TESOL. Notwithstanding, there were a few problems such as the limited time of the course, the nature of the classes, and lack of the needed equipment. Another issue that could be considered a drawback of the courses (according to 70% of the trainers) was the fact that for demo lessons, the trainees had to teach classes where the students were their peers. This study will have implications for institute officials, teacher’s trainers, and trainees.
